NEWS CORRESPONDENTS
Temporary Visa Type VI (VITEM-VI) is issued to
journalists travelling to Brazil as press, radio
and television correspondents, as well as to their
dependants or dependants of a VITEM-VI visa holder.
The issuance of this visa requires authorisation
from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations.
The procedure has two phases.
First phase: applying for an authorisation
Tthe newspaper, news service, magazine, radio
or television station or network must address
to the Consulate-General a letter providing information
on the assignment and giving the following details
on the correspondent. Based on such information
the Consulate will consult the Brazilian home
authorities.
A – complete name in accordance with passport
B – date and place of birth
C – nationality
D – parents’ names
E – passport number
F – civil status (if married, same data
on spouse must be provided)
G – purported duration of employment in
Brazil
H – if applicant will replace another correspondent,
the name of the replaced journalist must be informed.
I - confirmation that the employer will be responsible
for the correspondent's remuneration
Second phase: collecting the visa
Once the Consulate receives authorization to issue
the visa, the applicant must produce the following
items:
A – Passport valid for a minimum of six
months.
B – One recent 3 cm x 4 cm photograph,
front view
C– One visa application form (click
here to fill in the form). Please disregard
the error message about the website’s security
certificate. Click at “Continue to this
website (not recommended)”.
Fill in the form.
. Click "SEND" to receive your processing
number and receipt.
. Print the receipt.
. Attach your photograph
. Sign the receipt.
. Bring the duly completed and signed receipt,
the original documentation, passport and payment.
The visa application form filled out
online is valid for one month only. If you apply
after that period, it will be necessary to fill
out another form.
D – Certificate of good behaviour (international
model) issued by the Dutch Ministry of Justice
within 90 days from delivery to the Consulate.
Issuance by Dutch authorities may take up to 4
weeks.
E – Certificate of residence issued by
Dutch municipal authorities (international model).
Applicants must have lived in the Netherlands
for the previous year.
PLEASE NOTE THAT
– On a reciprocity basis, first entry into
Brazil must be made within 90 days after the visa
has been issued for passport holders of the following
countries: Angola, Bahrain, Cambodia, China, Gabon,
Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Laos,
Lybia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Paraguay, Philippines,
Portugal, Thailand, Tunisia and Switzerland.
Maximum duration of VITEM-VI visas is four years.
Extensions can be applied for at the Department
of Federal Police, in Brazil, at least 30 days
before the visa expires
VITEM-VI holders intending to stay in Brazil
for more than 180 days are allowed to take their
personal effects exempt from import duties. Pertinent
enquiries should be addressed to the Consulate-General.
Applications for Temporary Visa VI can only
be submitted in the consular district in which
the applicant resides.
CONSULAR FEES
A charge of € 18,00 is applicable
per visa. An additional processing fee of €
126,00 is charged to visa applications
presented by U.S. citizens in reciprocity for
identical fee paid by Brazilian citizens who apply
for a visa to the United States of America. British
subjects will be subject to a € 139,50
processing fee when the validity of their visas
is over 180 days, on a reciprocity basis. Applications
for Temporary Visa VI (VITEM-VI) may be submitted
in person, by an agent or by mail.
ALL APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED BY AGENT OR
BY MAIL ARE SUBJECT TO A € 18,00 HANDLING
FEE, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER APPLICABLE FEE.
All fees are payable either by debit card (PIN)
or in cash. Credit cards and cheques are not accepted.
IMPORTANT
AFTER ALL THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS HAVE BEEN PRESENTED
BY THE APPLICANT AND THE CONSULAR FEES PAID, THE
CONSULATE-GENERAL MUST CONSULT BRAZILIAN HOME
AUTHORITIES AND RECEIVE AUTHORISATION FOR GRANTING
A VITEM-VI VISA. IN THE MEANTIME, APPLICANTS MUST
NOT TRAVEL TO BRAZIL. UPON RECEPTION OF THE AUTHORISATION,
PLEASE ALLOW A MINIMUM OF FIVE WORKING DAYS FOR
THE ISSUANCE OF THE VISA.
