UNDERGRADUATE, MASTER
OR DOCTORATE STUDENT AND INTERNS (TEMPORARY VISA
IV)
This kind of visa is issued to foreign citizens:
a) travelling to Brazil to undertake studies in
a Brazilian institution recognized by the Brazilian
Ministry of Education; and
b) entering Brazil as interns provided that the
internship is part of the university studies.
GENERAL DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS
1– Passport valid for a minimum of six
months or the duration of the visa,
whichever is longer.
2– One recent 3 cm x 4 cm photograph, front
view

Fill in the form.
. Click "SEND" to receive your processing
number and receipt.
. Print the receipt.
. Attach your photograph
. Sign the receipt.
. Bring the duly completed and signed receipt,
the original documentation, passport and payment.
The visa application form filled out
online is valid for one month only. If you apply
after that period, it will be necessary to fill
out another form.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS PER CATEGORY
A- Undergraduate, master or doctorate
students:
- proof of enrolment issued by an educational
institution in Brazil. Duration of course must
be indicated;
- round trip air ticket or e-ticket stating complete
itinerary with passenger’s name. Itinerary
must be on airline or travel agent’s letterhead
paper or identified with travel agency/airline
stamp. Itinerary must also show dates and cities
in Brazil of entry and departure;
- proof of availability of sufficient fund for
self-maintenance for the duration of stay in Brazil
or scholarship (at least €665,00 per month)
- certificate of good behaviour (international
model) issued by the Ministry of Justice within
90 days from delivery to the Consulate. Issuance
by the Dutch authorities may take up to 4 weeks,
upon presentation of a declaration issued by this
Consulate. Such declaration can be issued upon
presentation of a photocopy of either the applicant’s
ID or passport. The consular fee is € 13,50
and the processing time is up to 5 working days;
and
- birth certificate (international model).
Note: According to the course the applicant intends
to follow in Brazil, additional documents will
be required on a case by case basis.
B– Interns provided that the internship
is part of universities studies:
- Written confirmation of application’s
acceptance by the Brazilian university;
- proof of availability of sufficient fund for
self-maintenance for the duration of stay in Brazil
(€665,00 per month) or proof of scholarship
or maintenance allowance. No employment relationship
between institution and intern is allowed under
this visa;
- round trip air ticket or e-ticket stating complete
itinerary with passenger’s name. Itinerary
must be on airline or travel agent’s
letterhead paper or identified with travel agency/airline
stamp. Itinerary must also show dates and cities
in Brazil of entry and departure; and
- certificate of good behaviour (international
model) issued by the Ministry of Justice within

PLEASE NOTE THAT
– On a reciprocity basis, first entry into
Brazil must be made within 90 days after the visa
has been issued for passport holders of the following
countries:Angola, Bahrain, Cambodia, Cape Verde,
China, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana,
Greece, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan,
Qatar, Korea, Kuwait, Laos, Libya, Myanmar, Nigeria,
Oman, Pakistan, Paraguay, Philippines, Portugal,
Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Syria, Thailand, Taiwan
and Tunisia.
Maximum duration of the VITEM-IV visa is one
year. Extensions can be applied for at the Department
of Federal Police, in Brazil, at least 30 days
before the visa expires. Applications for extensions
must be accompanied by a school report from the
Brazilian educational institution in which the
applicant has been enrolled in addition to proof
of enrolment for the following school term.
VITEM-IV holders who are to stay in Brazil for
more than 90 days MUST register in person at the
Department of Federal Police in Brazil within
the first 30 days after their arrival. A copy
of the visa application form must be submitted
to the Police authorities.
VITEM-IV holders intending to stay in Brazil
for more than 180 days are allowed to take their
personal effects exempt from import duties. Pertinent
inquiries should be addressed to the Consulate-General.
- British students willing to
attend to Portuguese classes in Brazil shall prove
monthly additional income of US$ 1,000.00 over
the due amount of the course fee. The Portuguese
course must be composed of minimal 15 hours per
week.
CONSULAR FEES
A charge of € 36,00 is applicable per visa.
For US citizens, only a processing fee of €
126,00 will be charged. British subjects
will be subject to a € 139,50 processing
fee when the validity of their visas is over 180
days, on a reciprocity basis. Holders of French
passports are subject to a € 90.00 processing
fee, on a reciprocity basis. ALL APPLICATIONS
SUBMITTED BY AGENT ARE SUBJECT TO A € 18,00
HANDLING FEE, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER APPLICABLE
FEE.
All fees are payable either by debit card
(PIN) or in cash. Credit cards and cheques are
not accepted.
UPON DELIVERY OF COMPLETE DOCUMENTATION
AT THE CONSULATE-GENERAL, PLEASE ALLOW A MINIMUM
OF FIVE WORKING DAYS FOR THE ISSUANCE OF THE VISA.
ADD A MINIMUM OF TWO WORKING DAYS FOR PASSPORTS
RETURNED BY MAIL.
