PROFESSIONAL WORKER

Work visas (VITEM-V) are issued to a foreign citizen travelling to Brazil to work:


A – as a foreign employee of a Brazilian company

B – in a temporary employment in the Brazilian Government under an employment agreement or resulting from an international agreement subscribed by Brazil

C – as a trainee after the completion of university or professional studies, provided that he/she is not employed by a company or institution in Brazil;

D – as a teacher for a training stage in the teaching of foreign languages

E– as a crewmember of a tourist ship operating in Brazilian waters

F– in the framework of a contract for transfer of technology or provision of technical assistance or under a technical cooperation agreement between a Brazilian and a foreign company or institution, provided that he/she is not employed by a Brazilian company or institution

G – same as above but in an emergency situation (which must be proved)

H – as a crewmember of a foreign ship operating in Brazilian waters under a service or risk contract between a Brazilian and a foreign company or institution

I– as a crewmember of a foreign fishing ship leased by a Brazilian company

J– as a dependant of a VITEM-V visa holder or of an applicant under one of the categories above, as defined by the pertinent resolution of the Brazilian National Immigration Council

K- as a professor, high level technician/ researcher or scientist under an employment agreement to work for institutions in Brazil dedicated to teaching or research in science and technology

In all categories above except G, the visa application and the pertinent documentation must be lodged firstly in Brazil by the employer with the Brazilian Ministry of Labour. See the requirements to apply for a VITEM-V at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the Ministry's website.

AUTHORIZED VISAS

If the application is approved, the Consulate-General will be authorized to issue the visa. In order to know whether your work visa was granted, click on Authorized Visas in this website. You must present the documents listed below and pay the consular fee corresponding to the work visa.

– On a reciprocity basis, first entry into Brazil must be made within 90 days after the visa has been issued for passport holders of the following countries: Angola, Bahrain, Cambodia, China, Gabon, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Laos, Lybia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Paraguay, Philippines, Portugal, Thailand, Tunisia and Switzerland.

CONSULAR DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS TO RETRIEVE THE VISA

A – Passport valid for a minimum of six months.

B – One recent 3 cm x 4 cm photograph, front view

C– One visa application form (click here to fill in the form). Please disregard the error message about the website’s security certificate. Click at “Continue to this website (not recommended)”.

Fill in the form.
. Click "SEND" to receive your processing number and receipt.
. Print the receipt.
. Attach your photograph
. Sign the receipt.
. Bring the duly completed and signed receipt, the original documentation, passport and payment.

D - Certificate of good behaviour (international model) issued by the Dutch Ministry of Justice within 90 days from delivery to the Consulate. Issuance by Dutch authorities may take up to 4 weeks.

The visa application form filled out online is valid for one month only. If you apply after that period, it will be necessary to fill out another form.

PLEASE NOTE THAT
Maximum duration of the VITEM-V visa is two years. Extensions can be applied for at the Department of Federal Police, in Brazil, at least 30 days before the visa expires.

VITEM-V holders who are to stay in Brazil for more than 90 days must register in person at the Department of Federal Police in Brazil within the first 30 days after their arrival. Make sure to take with you the second (stamped) copy of the application form returned by the Consulate General for presentation to the Federal Police.


CONSULAR FEES
A charge of € 90,00 is applicable per visa. An additional processing fee of € 135,00 is charged to visa applications presented by U.S. citizens in reciprocity for identical fee paid by Brazilian citizens who apply for a visa to the United States of America. British subjects will be subject to a € 139,50 processing fee when the validity of their visas is over 180 days, on a reciprocity basis. ALL APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED BY AGENT OR BY MAIL ARE SUBJECT TO A € 18,00 HANDLING FEE, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER APPLICABLE FEE.

All fees are payable either by debit card (PIN) or in cash. Credit cards and cheques are not accepted.

Visas of this kind are free of charge for Italian citizens provided that their stay in Brazil will not exceed 90 days.

PASSPORTS RETURNED BY MAIL
Applicants should provide the Consulate-General with a self-addressed stamped envelope of suitable size.

THE CONSULATE-GENERAL CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST OR DELAYED MAIL.
UPON ARRIVAL OF COMPLETE DOCUMENTATION AT THE CONSULATE-GENERAL, PLEASE ALLOW A MINIMUM OF FIVE WORKING DAYS FOR THE ISSUANCE OF THE VISA. EXTRA TIME MAY BE NECESSARY IN SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES. ADD A MINIMUM OF TWO WORKING DAYS FOR PASSPORTS RETURNED BY MAIL.
